Acrylic vs EPDM vs Turf: choosing the right sports flooring

The flooring you choose dictates how the facility plays, how often it needs care and how long it lasts under UAE sun. Here is a no-nonsense comparison of the three systems we install most often.

Acrylic hard courts

The classic choice for tennis and basketball. Acrylic is poured in multiple layers over an asphalt or concrete base, giving a fast, true bounce and crisp line markings. Expect 6–8 years before a recoat is needed in the UAE climate.

EPDM rubber surfaces

EPDM is the safest option for multi-use play areas, schools and gyms. It absorbs impact, comes in any color and is virtually maintenance-free. The trade-off is a slower ball response, which makes it less suited to competitive racket sports.

Artificial turf

For padel, football and hockey, monofilament turf is the only realistic answer. The fiber height, density and infill all change the playing characteristics — and the wrong specification will fade within 18 months in direct UAE sun.

  • Acrylic — best ball response, mid maintenance, 6–8 yr recoat
  • EPDM — safest, lowest maintenance, slowest ball
  • Turf — only choice for padel/football, 8–10 yr lifespan if UV-stabilized

When in doubt, share the sport, the expected daily hours and your sun exposure with us — we will recommend the system with the best total cost of ownership for your case.
